Desmet Membrane Filters

The purpose of the fractionation process is to separate the liquid fraction called «oleins» from the crystallized fraction called «stearins». Fractionation is practiced mainly on palm oil, palm kernel oil, lard, tallow, partially hydrogenated fish or soybean oil, and anhydrous milk fat. At ambient or low temperatures, a number of oils or fats exist as a mixture of a crystallized, high-melting-point fraction and a liquid, low-melting-point fraction.

The process comprises three steps: Conditioning, Crystallization and Filtration.
