Chemical Extraction Equipment

This process involves oil removal from edible or inedible seeds by using Hexane as the vehicle which removes the available oil. This crude oil will be then refined, bleached, deodorized or winterized (depending on the seed) to be used for human consumption, animal feeds, soap industry, lubricants, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and biofuels. The extractor (also known as percolator) is the heart of the system and is the equipment where oil’s extraction takes place. Peripheral equipment is also required to work with the extractor (preparation, hexane recovery, and meal treatment). Chemical extraction is feasible from capacities from 400 TPD up to 10,000 TPD.

Cleaning Equipment/Separation Equipment/Classification Equipment

Cleaning equipment is used on oilseed, grains and animal feed industries with the purpose of remove foreign materials, trash, stones, sand, and ferrous pieces from the desired raw material being processed. Cleaners are available in mechanical design only (for comercial cleaniong or scalping) and a combination of mechanical and pneumatic design (for presicion cleaning) by including aspiration chamber with fan.

Separation equipment is extensivelly used on the oil/fat industries where solids or fines need to be removed from the liquid phase post-extraction. We use settling tanks or decanters (horizontal design) for this purpose reducing fines content from 14-16% down to 7-8% by using gravity force (settling tanks) or down to 1% or less by using G-force (decanters).

Classification equipment is represented for grain sizers and grain/feed screeners to separate different sizes on a common stream of product by using several designs of movements and wire mesh and screens specifications.

Coating Equipment

Liquids such as oil, fats, molasses, enzymes, flavored products, anti-oxidants or any other liquid can be added to a flow of dry product by using liquid coaters/blenders; they are extensively used on snack/food processing industry and the animal feed industries to accomplish a good final product quality under specific process parameters. Liquids can be added up to 7-8% on dry basis.

Cooking/Conditioning Equipment

Cooking/conditioning is achieved by saturated and dry steam injection into a vessel under pressure or under atmospheric pressure increasing moisture levels at different ranges of temperatures. Cookers are used on the oilseed industry to cook/conditioning seed prior the oil extraction, on the rendering industry prior fat removal on the screw presses and conditioners are used on feed mills to increase moisture level prior extrusion or pelleting process.

Cooling/Drying/Dehydration Equipment

Cooling equipment utilizes ambient air flow to reduce temperature down to +/-10º on the final product prior to storage o delivery. Coolers are manufactured in 3 different main designs, vertical, horizontal and counterflow, all three models uses the same principle of air flow usage which is contact with stream of warm product reducing temperature with a certain retention time inside the cooler. They are used in oilseed industries to cool the meal once the oil is removed and feed mills to reduce temperature reached on the conditioners and expanders.

Drying equipment utilizes heated air flow by using burners having different configurations or steam coils to reduce basically moisture level on grains post harvesting (harvesting and prior processing on any industry either for human consumption or animal feeds), oilseeds prior oil extraction and animal feed industry (extrusion).

Dehydration equipment is utilized to remove large amount of moisture (50-70%) on raw material using a lot of energy to evaporate water, blood for blood meal processing, poultry manure processing and alfalfa processing are only a few applications for this equipment.

DeHulling Equipment

Edible seeds such as Sunflower, cotton, soybeans, and inedible seeds jatropha or castor bean need to be dehulled prior processing. The term dehulling refers to the hulls or husk removal by using a combination of mechanical force (rolls compression) and pneumatic system to separate liftings from desirable meats. Hulls have a very abrasive effect on screw presses and extruders/expanders reducing life of the internal wear parts, also, by removing hulls the yield and quality of the oil is improved considerably.

Extrusion Equipment

Extrusion is well known on oilseed and animal feed industries. Dry material is fed directly into the extruder/expander by means of a variable speed feeder which maintains a constant flow rate. Dry feed is mixed with wáter injected directly into the extruder/expander barrel. Interrupted worm flight design blends the material and water into a homogeneous mass. Heat is put into the material by the frictional work of the screw against the material, cooking takes place as the product is conveyed down the barrel. Steam is then injected to complete cooking action.

Dry extruders are used on the oilseed industry to provide a better preparation/cooking tan the old fashion stack cookers (also extruders does not uses steam), wet expanders are used on oilseed industries as a preparation ahead of solvent extraction plants and to produce Texturized Vegetable Protein (TVP) or full fat soybean meal. Also, wet expanders are used on animal feed industries to produce pet food or fish feed (floating or sinking).

Filtration Equipment

Filtration equipment is used on oilseed processing plants with the purpose of reduce fines/solids content on the oil after pressing. This is the most economical way to remove solids compared against decanters or centrifuges. Filters are available in vertical and horizontal designs and also there are two models well known such as filter presses and pressure leaf. There also polishing filters available in multi-bag design which is used to assure 99% or more clarification on the oil prior shipment or post-treatment.

Lint Handling Equipment

This equipment has been designed only to process lint from white cottonseeds. This group of equipment is represented for Delinters, Lint Cleaner and Bale Presses. Basically they are used on cottonseed crushing facilities to remove remain lint from the gins. Lint is processed separate from the seed.

Material Handling Equipment

Screw conveyors, chain-drag conveyors, belt conveyors, vertical screw elevators, bucket elevators, distributors, and diverter valves are part of this group of equipment. They are used on oilseed extraction plants, grain elevator, rendering plants and feed mills to mobilize the product (raw material, ingredients or final product) inside the facilities. Different sizes and material of constructions are available depending on application and capacity.

Mechanical Extraction Equipment

Screw presses are used on the oilseed and rendering industries for several years to remove vegetable oil from edible or inedible seeds and to remove fat from animal by-products. These screw presses are also called Expeller presses and comes in different models depending on capacity requirement. Expellers are available for conventional full pressing, pre-pressing or suitable to process extruded materials. Compared against solvent extraction equipment here the residual oil in the final meal is about 6-7% and these installations are feasibles for capacities up to 350 MTPD.

Mixing Equipment

Mixers are available in vertical or horizontal design also comes with an agitator main shaft with paddles or ribbon depending on application. The most common application for this equipment is in animal feed where the mixers are used to blend solid ingredients (previously ground) and liquid ingredients per specific formulas and with a specific mixing time (wet and dry time) inside the unit. Liquid manifold and manually added ingredients hopper are optional for this equipment. Carbon steel and stainless steel construction are available depending application.

Particle Size Reduction Equipment

Hammer mills, cracking/roller mills, flaking mills, delumpers, disintegrators, and pre-breakers are part of this group of equipment. The principle is to grind grains, oilseed, and cracklings by using the impact force or grinding thru rolls in order to obtain a uniform particle size prior any processing. Pneumatic assistance could be required when exigencies on particle size are very tuff to control dust produced during grinding process.

Pelleting Equipment

Pellet mills are extensively used on feed mills to produce pelleted feeds. Mixed material is conveyed into the conditioner where steam is added and then the mash is forced to pass thru a pellet die with specific perforation and relief for the pellet rolls, this a compacting process or mechanic pressing of the mash against the surface of the pellet die. Several pellet diameters are available depending on specie being feeding.

Specialty Equipment

This group of equipment is represented by some of the machines used on the food / snacks processing industry. Material construction is required in stainless steel food grade type since the final product is for human consumption. Equipment to process peanuts such as roasters, blanchers, peanut butter mills and equipment to process popcorn such as coaters, poppers, etc are considered specialty equipment.

Steam Generation Equipment

Steam boilers are used extensively on several industries to generate required steam to accomplish processes on oilseed crushing facilities, refineries, rendering plants and feed mills. Firetube and watertube boilers are available at different ranges of steam production and at different ranges of pressure depending of steam requirement. Burners are available for natural gas, propane, diesel or heavy oil. Feedwater systems, water softeners and chemical treatment systems are available to be furnished with the boilers.

Storage Equipment

This group is represented for vertical grain metallic silos or flat storages (used mainly for meals). Storage tanks for liquids (with coils or jacketed), and for solid in ingredients/raw material are part of this group of equipment. Different sizes are available depending on storage capacity.
